Trusted NDIS Support Coordination in Melbourne

Hyre offers NDIS Support Coordination in Melbourne for participants needing Level 1, 2, or 3 support. We do not provide support workers, personal care, or group homes, which means every recommendation is based on what is right for you, not what benefits us.

How Support Coordination Works

Support Coordination falls under Capacity Building in your NDIS plan and is separate from your Core funding. Using it does not reduce what is available for therapies, support workers, or daily activities.

Here is what your coordinator does for you:

  • Identifies which providers are right for you
  • Reaches out on your behalf and sets up NDIS service agreements
  • Tracks how your budget is being used
  • Prepares evidence and progress notes for your plan review

One participant joined Hyre Support Coordination after their previous coordinator had been unresponsive for months. Within six weeks, they had three providers in place and their upcoming plan review fully documented.

3 Levels of NDIS Support Coordination

For participants new to the NDIS who need initial guidance. Your coordinator helps you understand your funding and find the right support providers.

For participants with an active NDIS plan. Your coordinator manages your NDIS service agreements, monitors your budget, steps in when providers are not delivering, and prepares your plan review.

For participants with significant risk or complexity, hospital admissions, justice system involvement, or multiple support breakdowns, our specialist coordinators hold qualifications in social work, mental health nursing, OT, or psychology. Not all Melbourne providers offer Level 3. We do.

Is Your NDIS Plan Working for You?

Here are some signs your current coordination is not working:

  • Providers get signed up but never contacted
  • Service agreements sit unsigned for weeks
  • Budget runs low because nobody is tracking it
  • Plan review arrives with nothing documented

Some participants come to us after weeks or months of chasing updates from providers and hearing nothing back. Your coordinator stays involved throughout your plan, follows up when problems arise, and makes sure your review is supported by proper evidence rather than last-minute scrambling.

How to Switch Your Support Coordinator

You do not need the NDIA’s permission. You do not need to wait for a plan review. Here is how simple it is:

  1. Give written notice to your current provider based on what your service agreement says
  2. Sign a new service agreement with your new coordinator
  3. They collect the file and pick up from where things stand

Most participants switch over within one to two weeks.

One participant was nervous about having the conversation with their coordinator. We helped them write a short email. They were with us within ten days.

What Support Coordination Costs

NDIS Support Coordination is funded from your Capacity Building budget, with no out-of-pocket cost to you. We bill the standard NDIS hourly rate and will not exceed your budget without telling you first.

  • Agency-managed. The NDIA pays us directly. Nothing comes out of your pocket.
  • Plan-managed: Your plan manager handles the payment on your behalf.
  • Self-managed. We send you an invoice, and you pay it using your NDIS funds.

Why Participants Choose Hyre Support Coordination

Registered and Accountable

We are reviewed against the NDIS Practice Standards. For Agency-managed participants, registration is a requirement, not a preference. Our registration number is available on request.

No Conflict of Interest

We do not provide personal care, transport, or any other direct support. Every recommendation we make is based on what best suits your needs.

We Handle the Complex Cases

We regularly support participants dealing with psychosocial disability, hospital discharge, and justice system involvement, rather than referring them elsewhere

No Waitlist

People often contact us after struggling to get callbacks or waiting weeks just to hear from someone. If we take on your case, you will speak to a real person and get started quickly.

We Flag Budget Issues Early

Unexpectedly running out of funding can leave participants without the support they rely on. We track your budget and let you know early if anything needs attention.

We Are Spread Across Melbourne

From Preston and Coburg in the north to Pakenham and Berwick in the southeast, our coordinators are based across the metro area, so no one has to travel far.

Who Can Access This Service?

We work with participants across all plan management types:

  • Agency-managed. You can only use registered providers. We are registered, so you can choose us without changing anything else about your plan.
  • Plan-managed: More flexibility over who you work with. Choosing a registered provider means an extra layer of quality assurance behind the service.
  • Self-managed. We support a person-centred support approach, helping you stay across your budget while keeping decisions in your hands.
  • Families and referrers. Whether you are in Frankston, Epping, or Box Hill, fill in our referral form, and we will get back to you the same business day.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is support coordination automatically included in every NDIS plan?

No. It must be assessed as reasonable and necessary. If you think you need it, request it at your next plan review. A new diagnosis, hospital admission, or support breakdown are common reasons the NDIA funds it.

What happens to my unspent coordination funding at the end of my plan?

It does not roll over. Your coordinator should track your budget and flag unused hours well before your plan ends.

What questions should I ask before choosing a support coordinator?

Ask about their experience with your disability, how often they will contact you, and whether they are registered with the NDIS Quality and Safeguards Commission. If you are Agency-managed, that last question is non-negotiable.

What is the difference between a support coordinator and an NDIS plan manager?

A support coordinator helps you use your plan to find providers and manage your support network. An NDIS plan manager handles the finances, pays invoices, and tracks spending. Many participants have both.

Can I choose who comes to my NDIS plan review?

Yes. You can bring a family member, carer, or support worker. You can also ask your coordinator to attend and help you prepare.

What happens if my providers stop responding?

Your coordinator follows up directly. If a provider is not delivering what was agreed, we step in, whether that means chasing them up or finding someone better suited to your needs.

How do I switch to a different support coordinator in Melbourne?

You can switch at any time. You do not need the NDIA’s approval or to wait for a plan review. Give your current provider written notice as outlined in your service agreement, sign a new agreement with us, and we will collect your file and pick up from there. Most participants complete the switch in one to two weeks with no gap in their supports.

What does support coordination cost?

Nothing out of pocket. Support coordination is funded from the Capacity Building budget in your NDIS plan, separate from Core supports, so using it does not reduce funding for therapies, support workers, or daily living. The 2026-27 price limits are $80.06 per hour for Level 1, $100.14 for Level 2, and $190.54 for Level 3.

Who gets support coordination funding in their plan?

The NDIA funds it when it is assessed as reasonable and necessary, based on your disability, goals, living situation, and the complexity of your supports. It is not included automatically. If it is not in your current plan, ask for it at your next plan review, or request a change of circumstances review if your situation has changed significantly since your plan was approved.

How quickly can support coordination start?

We respond the same business day. Once your service agreement is signed, your coordinator is assigned and introduced within 24 hours and begins contacting providers in the first week. For urgent situations, such as hospital discharge, we can usually have a coordinator involved within 24 to 48 hours.

Do you work with agency-managed, plan-managed and self-managed plans?

Yes, all three. Agency-managed participants can only use registered providers. Hyre Support Coordination is registered (provider number 4050142775), so you can choose us without changing anything else about your plan. Your management type only affects how invoices are paid, not the service you receive.

Can a support coordinator charge for travel?

Yes. Under the NDIS Pricing Arrangements, providers can claim travel time to and from you at the same hourly rate, capped at 30 minutes each way in metropolitan Melbourne. That time is deducted from your funded hours, so ask any provider where their coordinators are based before you sign. Our travel terms are set out in writing in every service agreement.

How many hours of support coordination do I need?

It depends on how complex your situation is and what the NDIA has funded. As a guide, a Level 2 plan typically includes between 20 and 40 hours over the plan year, with more hours at the start while providers are being set up. Participants with Level 3 Specialist funding usually need steady hours throughout the plan.

Can I use my coordination hours for my plan review?

Yes, it is one of the most valuable uses of them. Your coordinator gathers evidence, writes progress reports, and documents what has and has not worked, so your next plan reflects what you actually need rather than a summary written the week before.
